The most recent UNH poll shows Senator McCain defeating both Barack Obama (49-43%) and Senator Clinton (47-43%) in New Hampshire. The poll shows McCain defeating Obama by a staggering 61-27 percent among independents, and topping Clinton by 53-30 among the same group. McCain also wins a healthy chunk of Democrats against either candidate. (more)

Joe Kenney(Union Leader) Republican gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. Joe Kenney yesterday told an anecdote about how he addressed new homeowners in Wakefield when he was a selectman there. "I said, 'Listen, you're not going to get a paved road, you're not going to get (street) lighting, you're not going to get garbage pickup,'" Kenney said. "'The reason for that is we want to keep your taxes low.'" Now, the 47-year-old Republican said he thinks the same approach can help save New Hampshire from its financial woes. (more) (website) |
Jim Adams (Union Leader) With just four weeks left before the opening of the June 4-13 filing period, James "Jim" Adams of Pittsfield has Republican leaders excited. Adams, the recently retired former New Hampshire/Vermont district manager for the U.S. Postal Service, said yesterday he is seriously thinking of running because he's upset by what he views as excessive spending in Concord. Adams said he will make a final decision before the filling period opens and is currently trying to raise money. He says he's been encouraged by state party leaders. While Adams would be making his first run for elective office, he's not a political novice, said state GOP Chair Fergus Cullen. (more) |
an
island
in a sea
of
socialism
(Union
Leader)
Is New
Hampshire
Changing
for
good?
For
years
New
Hampshire
was
called
an
island
of
sanity
in a sea
of
socialism,
a free
market
holdout
surrounded
on all
sides by
a
growing
and more
intrusive
government.
But the
Old New
Hampshire
is
increasingly
being
replaced
by a
larger
more
involved
government
moving
us ever
closer
to
Massachusetts.

Op-Ed:
The New
Hampshire
working
forest
is in
crisis
(Union
Leader)
By TOM
THOMSON
I
HAVE
OWNED
forestland
since
1956.
When I
was 11,
my
father
encouraged
me and
my two
older
brothers
to
purchase
a
woodlot
in our
home
town of
Orford.
We did,
and we
still
own it
and
manage
it as a
sustainable
forest
today.
Since
then, my
wife,
Sheila,
and I
have
purchased
2,800
acres of
forestland.
We have
a couple
of
logging
operations
going on
nearly
every
year. As
one who
has been
active
within
the
forest
community,
I
believe
there is
a crisis
in New
Hampshire's
working
forest.
